The Center for American Music in the University of Pittsburgh Library System is pleased to announce its first annual research and travel grant. Researchers are invited to request up to $2000 to support research in the Center’s collections, which include:
- Foster Hall Collection (for research on Stephen C. Foster)
- Bing Crosby Collection
- Dave Burrell Archive*
- Charles Henry Pace and Frankie M. Pace Gospel Music archive
- Ethelbert Nevin archive
- Joe Negri archive
- Robert Schmertz archive
- Adolph M. Foerster archive
Other notable materials include posters, programs, and photographs of blackface minstrelsy; nineteenth-century binders’ volumes; and an extensive collection of rare recordings.

The application deadline for the inaugural award is Friday, November 19, 2021. Applications should include (1) a project proposal describing the intended use of the Center’s collections and the expected outcome (500–700 words), (2) a budget (not to exceed $2000), and (3) a CV (with references). The award winner will be notified by Thursday, December 23.
