G’day Luc,

We have an Olympus Tough TG-4, recommended to me by Martin Hauser a few year’s back – works a treat for what it is (and the price range) and very good for the field also (tough by name, tough by nature!). Has inbuilt stacking, and you can get attachments (e.g., light ring etc., which are ok).

I think they’re up to TG-6 now, at least.

Subject: Portable camera with focus stacking

Non-NU Email

Greetings friends,

I am seeking some advice or tips, as I am shopping for a museum camera. I already have a decent photo set up on our Leica microscope, with Helicon Focus. However, I am looking for a portable, point-and-shoot type camera, which I can use to photograph specimens during my museum trips. I need one with a built in focus stacking function and relatively decent macro features. We are a state institution with limited budget. Therefore I am looking at the under 1,000 $ price range, and for a portable travel camera that will readily take photographs, without a long rendering process.

Any suggestion, based on your experience or research on that topic, would be welcome.
